Being At Your Best

Succeeding is something that everyone strives for, they want to feel their best and know they did all that they could do.  By now, everyone has had a lot of these moments.  I know that I have, but there is one moment that happened recently that I really felt that I was at my best.

This moment happened my senior year of high school in my DECA class. DECA was a business group that you could participate in your junior and senior year of high school.  In the class we studied marketing, ethics and other business topics. Along with the class we competed in different events, my event was advertising.  My partner and I had to write an eleven page paper on an advertising plan for a local business, along with the paper we had to take a 100 question test.

My partner and I worked on our paper for months and studied for the test in between.  When we finished the paper, we were proud of it and we felt that we had done all that we could do.  In February it was finally time to see if all of our hard work had paid off.  If you got first or second place in your event you were able to move on to the national competition.  In the end our hard work did pay off and we got first place and we both continued on to compete at the national competition in Orlando, Florida.  Unfortunately, we didn't make it past the first round of the competition, but we did gain a lot of experience.

That feeling on stage when they announced our names for first place was great.  I felt that I was at my best, I had worked hard and I was proud and excited.  This feeling of hard work paying off is a great thing to carry on to college.  College is a lot of studying and hard work, so my DECA experience was a good one to carry on with.  I know that if I can remember that feeling of being at my best with my paper it can help me when I get stressed this semester.

Overall, having a "best" moment is something that everyone should experience.  Being at your best is such a great feeling and I hope that I have many more to come.

  1. That is great that you got first place on your paper. I agree that everyone has a time in their life when they are at their best. Freshman students need to take these "best experiences" and carry them into college because I believe it will help them become more successful.

  2. Gaining that kind of experience is priceless. Working hard and achieving something as great as first place really shows a lot. Learning how to work on something that hard is very important especially being a freshmen in college.

  4. Hayley,

Its great to recognize how you are going to take that experience into your time here at ISU. You will have more opportunities than you will know what to do with, but if you keep working hard, you will find your place and do great!

  5. I think that by completing that paper and doing so well, it'll help you throughout college. You can achieve and do good in anything as long as you put your mind to it and work hard.
